Description:
This video shows you the steps involved in making a color-changing acid-base indicator using red cabbage. An alternative to litmus papers, the molecule which gives the red cabbage its color changes color when exposed to solutions with acidic or basic pH ranges. The color changes are not specific enough to be used to determine a precise pH, so you wouldn't use red cabbage in a titration like you would an indicator such as phenolphthalein, but it is a universal indicator so the color changes do include the entire pH spectrum with several different vibrant colors from red to pink to blue to purple to green to yellow.
